Fundamentals of Welding
Train in the fundamentals of welding and begin learning
the critical skills needed for a welding career. Learn how to correctly read
and interpret plasma cutting and carbon arc gouging procedures, arc welding
procedures, the basic layout of construction drawings, and welding symbols. Learn
how to set up welding equipment, arc welding machine components, and the
different types of electrodes used in arc welding processes. Using E7018
electrodes, students will also practice basic SMAW welding procedures and
techniques.
GMAW/FCAW Processes
In this course, students learn how to install and operate
GMAW/FCAW welding equipment, as well as how to prepare pipes for GMAW/FCAW
welding processes. GMAW, or MIG, uses a torch designed to provide a shielding
gas to the weld and an automatic wire feed system that provides a continuous
feed of filler metal. FCAW, or flux core, uses a similar torch but uses powdered
flux to mold the weld. Students learn about isometric drawings and their
importance as a three-dimensional drawing of an object.
Structural welding
The Structural Welding course introduces students to many
different important things:
Basic Destructive Weld Testing Techniques
Importance of quality welds to achieve maximum strength
and integrity of the metal
fundamentals of metallurgy
welding pipe
Students expand their knowledge of welding diagrams,
drawings, and methods of coding different types of metal. Students will also
learn the process of Route Pass, Fill Weld, and SMAW procedures.
Basic Pipe Welding
This course trains students in the fundamentals of basic
pipe welding with two important welding processes: SMAW and GTAW.
For GTAW Welding, students practice basic route welding
on a pipe coupon.
In Basic Pipe Welding, students simultaneously practice
plating and other welding techniques. They practice welding in many
positions as they travel around the pipe to complete the weld.
advanced pipe welding
Students continue to practice their pipe welding skills,
root welds using the GTAW process, and complete the fill and cap portion of the
weld using SMAW processes. Students also learn how to install and safely
operate portable welding units for structural and pipe welding operations, rig
and balance pipe loads, use hand signal communication, and lift and place pipes
in preparation for welding operations.
Electrical safety guidelines and measures to prevent
electric shock are also taught.
