Welding workshop setting up arc welding equipment and striking an arc! Here's a step-by-step guide:

Aim: Setting up arc welding Equipment and striking on the arc.

Tools and Equipment:- lead, electrode, electrode–holder, Welding table, earth clamp.steel wire brush,

Procedure:-

1. Take the two MILD STEEL.  pieces of given dimensions.

2. The edge of each piece is beveled to a < 45’ angle.

3.The two pieces are positioned on the welding table so that they are separated slightly for better penetration of the weld.

4. The ground clamp is fastened to the welding table the machine is switched on.

5.The electrode is fitted into the electrode holder and the welding current is set to a proper value.

6.First run of the weld is done to fill the root gap.

7. Second run of the welding is done with proper weaving and uniform movement during the process of welding the electrode is kept at of 15 to 25’ from vertical and in the direction of welding.

8.The slag formation on the weld is removed by chipping hammer.

9. Filing is done to remove spatters around the weld.

Safety:-

1.      Personal Protective Equipment.

2.      Work as per instructions.

3.      Keep yourself away from the fumes.

4.      Check the welding cables.

5.      Wear proper clothing.

6.      Use hand screen while welding.

7.      Check for electric spark while welding.

 

Result:- The single v-butt joint is thus mode using the tools and equipment as above.
